Sungrow SBR128 review

This review covers SBR128: four modules and 12.8 kWh usable capacity, measured under Sungrow's specified test conditions. Other SBR stack sizes have different voltage and power limits and are outside this review.

The Australian datasheet's 7.68 kW is rated battery-side DC power. Household AC output depends on the inverter and operating conditions. For example, the compatible single-phase SH6.0RS has a 6 kW rated AC output and a 6 kW rated off-grid backup output; the battery's larger DC figure does not turn it into a 7.68 kW AC system.

Expansion requires an installer to match module charge levels and update firmware under Sungrow's procedure. Have the proposed future stack checked against the inverter before treating extra modules as a simple later purchase.

Choose the inverter and backup circuits together. Sungrow lists SBR128 with SH5.0RS/SH6.0RS single-phase inverters and SH5T/SH10T three-phase inverters, but the SH10T pairing carries a power limitation: SBR128 alone cannot deliver that inverter's full backup rating. Solar generation can supplement it when available; it is no substitute for a night-time load check.

The quote should identify which circuits and phases receive backup, their simultaneous demand and the inverter's starting-load limit. A three-phase supply does not make a single-phase inverter provide three-phase backup. Do not infer permanent off-grid suitability from an inverter datasheet's temporary outage-mode ratings.

Australia's V9 warranty, effective 21 May 2026, provides defect cover and 70% retained capacity for 120 months from installation or 126 months from manufacture, whichever comes first. Daily self-consumption and backup allow unlimited cycles. Other applications, including combinations involving them, face an SBR128 discharge-throughput limit of 35.84 MWh. VPPs are not named; ask Sungrow how your program is classified.

Performance cover requires an annual temperature profile of fewer than 90 days at 35–40°C, fewer than 30 days above 40°C, and an average below 25°C otherwise. Outside it, performance or throughput cover may not apply. Discuss the proposed location before accepting the quote.

iSolarCloud monitoring is an express condition. With incomplete, deleted or altered records, the document promises at least four years from installation or four years six months from manufacture, subject to exclusions; do not assume full cover offline. Expansion retains the original stack's performance-warranty dates. Ordinary resale does not automatically transfer cover. Australian Consumer Law rights remain.

Support evidence checked 21 September 2026. Sungrow’s Australian company material says it was founded in 1997. Its warranty portal identifies Sungrow Australia Group Pty Ltd as importer and publishes a North Sydney address, phone and email. Age and contacts do not establish SBR128 reliability or response quality.

HV Battery Warranty V9.0, effective 21 May 2026, covers SBR128 and permits an end user or installer to claim online. Accepted standard-ground return transport is capped at $200; excess/other methods are claimant-paid. The installer rebate is $150 for one defective SBR/SBH module plus $30 per additional module, after approval and testing. It is not a promise that all owner labour, travel or removal costs are covered. A no-fault/uncovered return can trigger cost recovery. Direct online, phone and email routes provide fallback if an installer disappears, but the terms do not promise a fully funded replacement electrician. Australian Consumer Law rights remain separate.

The completed ARENA/ITP program did not test SBR128. No SBR128/controller entry appeared in searches of the ACCC, CEC or Energy Safe Victoria registers. No dated, denominator-based Australian owner/installer sample specific to SBR128 was verified; general brand comments mix products and installers and cannot establish a rate.

We found no fixed Australian installed price in the manufacturer material checked. Request a complete quote covering the four-module stack, compatible inverter, monitoring, backup wiring and switchboard work. Sungrow's current Australian page documents the family; it does not confirm local stock or delivery dates.

Use the battery catalogue to compare other system designs if your existing inverter or required backup power makes this pairing unsuitable. Compare complete installations with the same backed-up loads, rather than battery-module prices alone.

Current approval and rebate eligibility were not verified. Have the installer confirm the exact battery, inverter and installation requirements before including any incentive in your budget.

Ask for the exact inverter model and a written outage-load plan before deciding. If future expansion or VPP participation matters, obtain the compatibility and warranty answers now. Those checks determine whether this particular four-module system fits your home better than simply choosing by stored kilowatt-hours.
