LG RESU16H Prime review

The datasheet separates 16.45 kWh nominal energy from 16 kWh usable, measured at 25°C under LG's test conditions. Household energy delivered will also depend on inverter losses and the backup reserve. Size the battery around electricity you can shift into it and use later, rather than your total daily consumption alone.

The power figures above describe the battery's DC output. The 11 kW discharge peak lasts ten seconds and excludes repeated short-duration current patterns; it is not a promise that your installed system will start a particular air conditioner. The inverter and other running loads still matter. Two packs can provide 32 kWh under the specified conditions, but this review's capacity is for one pack.

Ask for a written backup design naming the circuits, AC power limit and changeover equipment. LG's Australian compatibility booklet lists specific GoodWe models with backup mode. Its Solis S6-EH3P(5-10)K-H-AU pairing requires LG's 3Phase Box, an inverter manufactured after 15 September 2023 and the listed firmware. That is a qualified three-phase option, not automatic whole-home backup.

The SBS5.0 entry permits backup mode but explicitly says the battery will not charge during a blackout and is not Secure Power Supply compatible. Check this distinction before relying on solar to extend an outage. The booklet specifies inverter and battery firmware, so matching the brand alone is insufficient.

This is a standing installation. The manual requires level ground that supports its weight and, outdoors, shelter under an eave away from direct sunlight. The datasheet and manual give 159 kg, while the product-page table says 111 kg; have the installer resolve this discrepancy when planning access and support. Commissioning includes the Remote Monitoring Device and a RESU Monitor registration check.

LG's Australian warranty provides ten-year product cover. Separately, its performance promise is 70% energy retention until ten years or 54 MWh of aggregate throughput, whichever comes first. Both start at installation or twelve months after manufacture, whichever is earlier. Stored inventory can therefore consume part of the term before installation.

Full cover depends on internet access and RESU Monitor registration enabling LG's remote updates. If their absence prevents important updates, LG says it may not honour the full term, but provides at least five years despite missing connectivity or registration. The document gives no numerical offline grace period.

Purchase must be through an authorised channel, with installation and servicing by an appropriately licensed, LG-certified installer. An approved inverter and grid connection are required; the warranty excludes a standalone off-grid installation. Keep purchase, installation and serial-number records.

The stated application is residential solar self-consumption or backup. VPP dispatch is not expressly addressed, so obtain LG's written position on your proposed program. Australian Consumer Law rights remain additional to this limited warranty.

Support evidence checked 21 September 2026. LG Energy Solution's history traces predecessor battery research to 1992 and its separate-company formation to 2020. ABR history records the Australian entity from 4 October 2017 as LG Chem Australia, renamed LG Energy Solution Australia on 15 December 2020. That lineage does not prove this model's reliability or service speed. The written Prime warranty requires the owner to notify the installer or LG Energy Solution Australia, provide purchase and commissioning records, and permit remote diagnosis. If an installer has disappeared, direct manufacturer contact is documented; a separate installer-closure transfer process was not verified.

For a covered defect, LG may repair or replace using refurbished parts. Only when the product is no longer commercially available may LG instead supply functionally equivalent equipment or refund its depreciated value. The written warranty does not allocate accepted-claim removal, reinstallation, labour, travel or freight costs, so obtain those responsibilities in writing. Australian Consumer Law rights remain additional.

LG's Australian recall service and the ACCC notices concern specified older models, production dates and serial numbers; they do not identify RESU16H Prime by its model name. Do not transfer those incidents to this battery without a serial match. They do show why serial checking and an active monitoring connection matter. No controlled Australian field study or useful failure-rate dataset specific to RESU16H Prime was verified.

LG's Australian page offers a manufacturer quote enquiry routed to a local certified installer, with no published installed price. It establishes an enquiry path, not confirmed stock. Request an itemised price for the battery, inverter, backup equipment, monitoring connection and site work, with any rebate shown separately and its eligibility checked for the supplied system.

Before signing, match the quote to RESU16H Prime and model code EH257064P8S1, then ask the installer to explain outage charging, reserve settings and the commissioning records you will receive. A quote that says only “LG RESU” does not identify the reviewed product.

For an existing or second-hand LG battery, the ACCC replacement recall and related recall name older RESU and specified other battery models; their published lists do not name RESU16H Prime. This is not an individual battery clearance. If identity or recall status is uncertain, contact LG's Australian recall team on 1300 677 273. Affected batteries must be switched off and kept off until LG's remedy advice permits operation; ask LG for help if you cannot shut down safely.
