FranklinWH aPower X-02-AU review

Storage capacity does not tell you how many appliances can run together. One unit stores 15 kWh but supplies 5 kW continuously. Its 10 kW peak lasts only ten seconds.

This review covers the X-02-AU, SKU APR-05K15V1-AU, identified as the current local model on FranklinWH's Australian product page when checked. The older X-01-AU has 13.6 kWh usable capacity; its manufacturer documents and catalogue entry do not establish current availability.

Expansion has separate limits: up to 225 kWh per aGate and 20 kW continuous system output. FranklinWH requires contact for configurations above four parallel batteries; extra storage does not mean power scales without limit.

The aGate handles backup switching, but coverage depends on the circuits and equipment your installer connects. Whole-home storage does not mean every appliance can run together during an outage. Ask which loads the proposed system will support and for how long under your expected use.

The 185 kg cabinet needs an installer assessment for location, access and mounting. Retaining your solar inverter still requires a designed and installed battery system.

The X-02-AU's performance guarantee is 70% retained capacity at twelve years or 60 MWh throughput, whichever comes first. Throughput is cumulative energy over its life: heavy cycling can reach the limit before year twelve. The older X-01-AU has a 43 MWh limit.

Full written cover requires an authorised seller, a FranklinWH-certified installer and registration at installation. After more than 90 consecutive days offline, FranklinWH sends a reconnection notice; failure to restore connectivity reduces the term to four years from initial installation. An unregistered installation also receives only four years. Australian Consumer Law rights remain.

The warranty PDF does not expressly address VPP participation. Confirm cover for your exact model and program before enrolling; a provider listing does not resolve that question.

Support evidence checked 21 September 2026. The Australian Business Register records FranklinWH Australia Pty Ltd as active from 19 April 2023. A local entity is useful for escalation, but its age and the brand's growth do not demonstrate twelve-year product reliability.

FranklinWH's Australian support page says the installer is the first contact. It explicitly tells owners whose installer is unresponsive or no longer trading to contact FranklinWH on 1800 161 300, service-au@franklinwh.com, or its ticket portal. The June 2026 warranty repeats that fallback and says FranklinWH may assign its own or an authorised partner's service personnel. It requires an RMA before return; otherwise FranklinWH will not bear shipment cost. The remedy can be repair, a new or refurbished equivalent replacement, or in stated circumstances a depreciated purchase-price refund. The document does not allocate accepted-claim on-site labour, removal, reinstallation or travel costs, so obtain the installer's position before purchase. Australian Consumer Law rights remain separate.

No regulator recall or controlled Australian field-reliability study for X-02-AU was verified. FranklinWH's website testimonials are selected by the manufacturer and cannot establish failure or claim rates. The documented closure fallback is explicit; long-term Australian outcomes remain unverified for this new model and local entity.

Use the installer's proposed backup circuits and simultaneous power demand to judge the fit for your home. For an older X-01-AU quote, confirm supply status and account for its different capacity and throughput limit before comparing it with the reviewed model.
