How we compared
Reviewed
- Evidence basis
- Australian seller offers and manufacturer specifications reopened 12 October 2026. Research comparison; no hands-on tests.
- Coverage
- Four exact Australian-outlet models across three brands, including the current Eaton Gen2 family and a distinct CyberPower Value Pro option.
- Limitations
- A focused current Australian shortlist, not a whole-market ranking. Runtime, transfer behaviour, acoustics, software shutdown and battery ageing have not been tested. Product photos show the identified models; the cover is contextual.
Choose the backup job before the UPS
Start with CyberPower CP900EPFCLCDa if the equipment maker requires pure sine-wave battery output. Eaton 5E900UIAU Gen2 is the compact two-outlet option; APC BX750MI-AZ suits a basic manual-shutdown plan; CyberPower VP1000ELCD adds an LCD and three backup sockets with simulated sine output.
List the equipment that must stay powered, its combined load in watts and the time needed to shut down or ride through a short interruption. These suggestions compare Australian specifications and seller offers. We have not tested an outage, runtime, acoustics, software shutdown or battery ageing. This home-office shortlist does not establish suitability for medical equipment or whole-home backup.
Australian store prices and battery outlets
| Exact AU model | Store / displayed AUD price | Maker rating / battery output | Outlet or package limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| CyberPower CP900EPFCLCDa | Scorptec — A$299 | 900VA / 540W; pure sine | 3 backup + 3 surge only; mains and USB cables |
| Eaton 5E900UIAU Gen2 | Skycomp — A$155 | 900VA / 480W; waveform to confirm | 2 ANZ outlets; mains lead; USB cable to confirm |
| APC BX750MI-AZ | Umart — A$139 | 750VA / 410W; stepped sine approximation | 3 AU outlets; no USB compatibility in maker datasheet |
| CyberPower VP1000ELCD | Officeworks — A$279 | 1000VA / 550W; simulated sine | All 3 backup + surge; no surge-only outlets; USB cable; mains inclusion to confirm |
Skycomp explicitly labels its A$155 amount GST inclusive; Scorptec’s page footer also states that its prices include GST. The remaining amounts are displayed Australian retail prices; confirm the final invoice and freight for your address. A lower purchase price does not settle value without a runtime curve, compatible output and enough battery-backed sockets.
Outlets, waveform and support by model
CyberPower CP900EPFCLCDa — distinguish backup from surge-only
The manufacturer’s AU table specifies 230V, 900VA/540W and pure sine output on battery. Of six Australian sockets, only three supply battery backup; the other three provide surge protection. Put the essential equipment on the correct group. The package documentation includes a USB cable and detachable 1.83m Australian mains lead.
Scorptec’s exact offer costs A$299. CyberPower lists two-year coverage for the product and battery. Keep the local invoice and confirm the claim process, replacement-battery route and PowerPanel compatibility with your operating system before relying on unattended shutdown. Pure sine output addresses a compatibility requirement; it does not establish a runtime at your load.
Eaton 5E900UIAU Gen2 — match the AU suffix and socket count
The current Australian family identifies 5E900UIAU as 900VA/480W with two ANZ outlets and fanless operation. Avoid similarly named IEC-outlet or older 5E variants. The ANZ manual describes the protected output as supplying backup power, documents USB communication and lists a mains lead in the package; it does not establish an included USB cable.
Skycomp’s exact Gen2 offer and the ANZ brochure state two years. The retained local documents do not establish the battery waveform or a runtime at your load. Obtain those answers if equipment compatibility or a minimum backup period is decisive. Fanless is a design specification, not a measured silence claim.
APC BX750MI-AZ — plan around basic operation
The AU product page identifies the 750VA/410W model and three Australian outlets. The manufacturer datasheet dated 9 October 2023, hosted by APCGuard and reopened 12 October 2026, records stepped approximation to sine-wave output, a 1.22m mains cable and a two-year repair-or-replace warranty.
Its USB compatibility field says No. Do not buy on the assumption that a USB lead and shutdown software can automate this model’s computer shutdown. Confirm the rear outlet labels and the equipment maker’s waveform requirements. Umart’s exact AU listing provides the A$139 offer and a local purchase route. Ask about battery servicing and replacement cost rather than treating a stated typical battery life as a guarantee.
CyberPower VP1000ELCD — three backup outlets, different waveform
Officeworks’ exact VP1000ELCD offer is A$279. The Australian manufacturer table specifies 1000VA/550W, simulated sine-wave output and three Australian outlets providing both battery backup and surge protection. All three sockets provide both protections; there are no surge-only sockets. It has an LCD, and the box list includes a USB cable. The input specification gives a detachable 1.5m AU mains lead, but the box list omits that lead; confirm its inclusion with Officeworks.
CyberPower lists two years for product and battery. Check the local claim route, replacement battery and software/OS compatibility. This model offers a different socket and display arrangement from the CP900, but its higher VA label does not prove longer runtime at the same real-world load. Use the load-specific curve and output requirements to decide between them.
Ask for runtime at your actual load
The watt rating is a load ceiling, not a duration. Measure or reliably establish the combined power of the equipment, then request the maker’s runtime curve at that load. A desktop supply’s maximum rating is not its constant draw. Battery condition, temperature and the actual workload affect usable time.
Count battery-backed sockets separately from surge-only ones and leave room for the physical plug shapes. If the goal is keeping a network connection alive, include every necessary network device rather than just the router. A UPS does not guarantee the upstream network remains powered.
For unattended shutdown, verify the exact UPS model, USB connection, current operating-system support and required software. APC’s documented lack of USB compatibility is a consequential difference here. Test the final shutdown arrangement once installed instead of assuming a successful purchase proves it works.
Check the full ownership package
Match the complete Australian suffix, input plug and rear outlet labels. Obtain a written runtime answer for the intended load and confirmation of waveform suitability. Check the cable kit, warranty claim freight and the replacement-battery or service route. Keep the receipt and revisit the dated seller link for the final invoice total.
