Camping fridges for Australian vehicle trips

Start with Dometic CFX5 45 if carry weight matters, Engel MT-V45J if a shallow body fits your vehicle, or Bushman SC35-52 if you want adjustable capacity. Kings Stayzcool MKII adds a lower-price fridge-and-cover kit with a dual-opening lid; myCOOLMAN CCP44 offers a different 44L bundle with a bonus PowerPack. These are documented fits, not tested cooling winners.

Our purchase refresh checked BCF, Australian brand stores and 4WD Supacentre on 12 October 2026. The shortlist uses approximately 40–45L vehicle chest fridges, with Bushman’s modular sizes as the exception. Bigger dual-zone fridges, permanently installed upright fridges and thermoelectric coolers solve different problems. The current CFX5, Kings MKII and Bushman 2026 listings are identified explicitly; an older product family stays here when its documented fit is still useful.

BCF Club prices require free membership. BCF terms and 4WD Supacentre terms include GST. Confirm tax and postcode freight for the Bushman and myCOOLMAN checkout totals. The myCOOLMAN reference is a manufacturer store amount, not an established saving.

Dometic CFX5 45 — carry weight and one zone

Dometic’s AU specifications identify SKU 9620015959, 694 × 398 × 476mm and 18.9kg net weight. The badge says 45; its IEC storage-volume field says 46L. This is a single-zone fridge or freezer, rather than simultaneous independent compartments. BCF lists five years’ warranty; start a fault claim with BCF. Leave the manual’s ventilation clearance around it.

Engel MT-V45J — check handles and component coverage

The exact BCF J listing specifies 631mm width × 508mm height × 360mm depth before handles. The handles extend the width to 751mm; they do not change the listed depth. Its shallow body does not remove its 24kg carry weight. BCF’s detailed warranty table separates five years for the compressor/Swing Motor from three years for the power supply, temperature-control assembly, thermistors and fan motor. That is more useful than the page’s broad five-year headline. Start with BCF for a claim and confirm the supplied AC/DC leads on the exact J kit.

myCOOLMAN CCP44 — buy the named PowerPack bundle

The current AU package is the 44L fridge plus PowerPack, not the old bonus-cover package. Its 652 × 412 × 488mm body and DC inputs at both ends suit a different vehicle layout from the Engel. The fridge listing states 23.4kg and five years’ warranty for purchases after October 2024. The bonus battery’s capacity, separate warranty and complete charging kit are not established by that offer page: obtain those details before relying on it for unplugged operation. myCOOLMAN AU support provides the local contact route.

Bushman SC35-52 — measure the expanded configuration

Bushman’s current Heavy Duty kit includes the collar, dome lid, three baskets, AC adapter, canvas cover, Anderson lead, cigarette adapter and tie-down brackets. Fridge use covers 35/45/52L; full-freezer use covers 35/45L. One thermostat controls the unit. Warranty terms cover the original owner for at least three years and the 2026 compressor for seven years; the buyer pays transport to the approved repair facility.

Kings Stayzcool MKII — compare the whole package

Choose AKFR-FR45L_03, not a differently sized fridge or the MKI. The listing identifies a dual-opening lid, AC/DC cables, covered ports and a five-year warranty. Its dimension drawing states 744 × 423 × 461mm and 20.8kg; confirm handle clearance and covered dimensions before ordering. The checked A$468.95 bundle includes one fridge and its matching 45L cover. The bare-fridge page displays A$749; its separate cover is A$79.95. These are different offers, not a verified historical saving. Tie-down kit A$19.95 and medium slide A$139 remain separate on the checked page. Use 4WD Supacentre’s faulty-product policy with the receipt; claims start through repairs and warranties or 1800 883 964. Its general voluntary warranty is twelve months, while this fridge advertises five years: retain that model-specific coverage. The policy assigns transport costs to the buyer, subject to consumer rights.

Measure the vehicle opening, handle span, lid swing and final slide height. Add food and drink to the lifting plan. Fridge dimensions and unloaded masses use different measurement bases, so a nominal litre count cannot establish easier packing.

A fridge still needs a compatible battery or mains supply, wiring and secure mounting. This comparison has no common-temperature cooling, noise or endurance test; manufacturer consumption figures are not interchangeable runtime predictions. Follow the fridge and power-source manuals, including ventilation and battery-protection settings.

Open the named store link, match the SKU and obtain the complete tax-inclusive package price with the required restraint, slide and power accessories. Confirm the written component warranty and local claim route. Check the exact model and revision against the Australian recall register; this shortlist does not establish batch or serial clearance.
